The Christmas Spirit [11 Dec 2008|10:38pm]
The Christmas Spirit has consumed my soul, and is excreting delicious peppermint-flavored chocolate.

As such, for the annual family Christmas extravaganza, I have decided to give my 22 cousins/aunts/uncles (on my Dad's side of the family) Christmas Cards.

In true Christmas fashion, I bought some Dinosaur and Pirate stickers to spice things up. My favorite result:

As you open the card, a Pirate Ship greets on. As you open the card further, on the left side a Dinosaur stares at the Pirate Ship, and has a speech bubble: "Why is there a pirate ship in a Christmas Card?"

Secession [09 Jan 2008|08:50pm]
'Realm of redink1' is now inactive. This will probably be my final post.

No reason in particular.

Cards [23 Dec 2007|09:02am]
Two weeks ago, I bought Christmas Cards with the intent to mail them to the usual suspects. I kept putting this task off, until I'm at a point where sending any cards would be a merry mistake.

I guess I won't send out cards this year.

Valor [08 Apr 2007|11:44pm]
I've resumed work on the Dink Map Editor of Valor. I started an earlier version almost 3 years ago. I said farewell to the old source code, and started from scratch yesterday.

So far, things are going pretty well. The .NET Framework has a very, very nice control called the PropertyGrid. With it, I can create a class for, say, a Sprite, tell the property grid to display the properties for a sprite, and it will automatically show all public properties for that sprite, and allow the user to directly modify them. Bottom line: its going to save me a lot of time.

I'm pretty excited so far. I had thought about restarting work on Paragon, but the prospect of dealing with Windinkedit's user interface was disheartening.

Also, for some reason, I am feeling compelled to play through the Easy difficulty in Guitar Hero II (360) left-handed. Wee.

My new computer is cool.

Somehow, its internal case temperature appears to be below room temperature, so its like sitting next to a mini air-conditioner that seeps out cool air. I'm sure this will be nice during the summer time, but for now... brr.

Four [18 Jan 2007|09:41pm]
At various times in the past and present, I've listened to each of the four songs over-and-over again. Like, say, 50 times in a row.

Stroke 9 - Kick Some Ass
Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc
Sia - Breathe Me
Guano Apes - Quietly

I beat Guitar Hero II on Hard mode. My fingers hurt. Granted, I barely passed most of the songs with three stars.

I started Expert mode. And, wow, missing notes really drops your Rock meter down.

Fun-Size Reviews [26 Nov 2006|01:52am]
Excite Truck (Wii): Wheee. Soaring in the air for a half-mile is fun.

Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii): Terrific sense of humor, so-so gameplay. Overall, the mini-games are much better than the ones in Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz, but none of them are worth playing over-and-over again.

Sonic the Hedgehog (as part of Sonic Mega Collection for Gamecube): I was really liking it again, until I got to the Labyrinth level. Most of the fun in Sonic comes from running and jumping (!). Labyrinth poops on this standard fun gameplay with floaty underwater physics, a constant threat of drowning, and find-the-button-to-open-a-passage annoyances.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz (Wii): The most disappointing Super Monkey Ball game I've played. Super Monkey Ball, Super Monkey Ball 2, and hell, Super Monkey Ball Jr. are all better. Banana Blitz suffers from a too-easy story/puzzle mode (where SMB 1 is too hard, and SMB2 is about right), and a serious lack of mini-game depth. Monkey Target has been dulled down to little worth playing, the special lanes from Monkey Bowling are no-more, and Monkey Fight was retired. Most of the new mini-games are difficult to control and just annoying.

Success [19 Nov 2006|10:58am]
I arrived at Target about 6:00 am. At 7:00 am they gave out vouchers, and I was #32 in line, and there were 39 available Wii consoles.

I got the last available nunchuck, and the super-sweet Wii gift card.

Definitions pt. 2 [09 Oct 2006|08:04pm]
I cannot think of anything else to respond with, but I wanted to let you know that I read your message, and it would be fine if you wanted to change topics or go into more detail.

I am intrigued.

My mind has been ensnared by a thought, and I will search/experiment/think-about-it and report my conclusion soon.

I am confused, please clarify.

My neurons are spinning.

Affirmative, and I am in a foul mood.

Oh, that makes sense, I was previously confused.

Yes, I know that.

Aye, heh
Yes, I know that, and am amused by the fact that you brought it up.

I saw Snakes. On a Plane. In a Theater.

I decided to get it done with bright-and-early this morning, so I went to the closest theater for the 11:35 am showing. Not surprisingly, I was just about the only person in the area with the same idea. I shared the theater with only one other person, who sat like 25 feet away.

Damn, going to the theaters in the morning rocks. I might do it more often.

Mini-review: worth watching. Fairly gruesome. High body count. Nigh-on every type of body part will be bitten by snakes at some point during the movie. It takes itself seriously, and tries to make you feel sorry when some people die. But you still want to chuckle, for the most part.

Coin [29 May 2006|12:09pm]
Dan stands in front of his desk. His shoes are tied, his pockets are filled with a wallet and far too many keys, and his heart beats with an odd quiver.

"I wonder if I should get an XBox 360 or not."

Then, Dan's eyes open somewhat wider, and he rummages through his desk for a quarter. He takes it out, with special care taken so he doesn't see which side is up.

"I'll flip the quarter... heads I'll get it, tails I won't."

So Dan flips the quarter into several dozen flips into the air, and it misses his hand and drops on his shoe. He picks it up and flips it again, catches it, turns it around...

"Best 2 out of 3?"

Flip, catch, turn.

"3 out of 5?"

Heads. Heads. Heads.

Why? [16 Apr 2006|12:35pm]
In the course of a few windy days last Fall, I found a plastic 'Y' in the parking lot while walking to my car. It is a rectangular piece of plastic about 8" x 2", with a clear background and a vivid black 'Y' printed on it. I picked it up, and I placed it above my thermostat. It has been there ever since.

What's worse than no internet access for half-a-week?

Internet access that resets every 3 minutes, making it nearly impossible to do anything.
